Respectful, Confidential, Efficient
Therapy
Niagara Stress & Trauma Clinic
First opened as "The Marriage & Family Therapy Clinic" in 1993,
our clinic offers a range of services to citizens of the Niagara region,
including individual, couple & family therapy, play therapy, EMDR trauma
therapy as well as consultation and training for other clinicians.
Our therapists have a higher level of expertise
and accountability than is usual-in addition to having the usual Masters
degrees, we are all registered or certified by a governing professional
association with tough training standards and an active ethics committee. We
are in ongoing training and supervision, continually adding to our skills and
expertise, and we will continue to be so throughout our careers.
Therapy at our clinic is conducted in the
knowledge that you, as a prospective client, are resourceful. The process of
therapy is one which makes your resources more available to you, at a time when
they feel temporarily unavailable. We notice what works, not what's wrong.
Therapy, at the Niagara Stress & Trauma Clinic is collaborative, respectful
and positive. We continually check with you about whether the work is useful--
about whether it is actually having an impact on your life, because you are the
best judge of your therapy. We have a policy of 'least intrusion', which means
that therapy can be short term.
The clinic is located in a pleasant downtown St.
Catharines medical-arts building. Its facilities are comfortable and welcoming
to both adults and children. This is a small clinic with very little
administrative bureaucracy. The person you talk to on the telephone is usually
the person you will be working with. We keep short, respectful records that you
are welcome to see, and we keep them properly and securely. Your privacy and
confidentiality are protected by every possible means. There is usually minimal
or no waiting period for appointments and we offer some evening times. Sessions
are typically an hour in length (although trauma therapy can also be done in
90-minute sessions).
We do not require a referral-call the clinic
directly.
All individuals and families experience
difficulties, especially during times of transition. For example, when a couple
starts a family, when children move into adolescence or adulthood, or when
adults move from employment to retirement, the individual's or family's
previous ways of managing may no longer work as well as they used to.
Similarly, when stresses such as school problems, illness, injury, substance
abuse, separation, loss, or unemployment occur, people may find that they need
to discover additional ways of handling their lives. They may feel stuck, or
that they haven't got the resources they need. In therapy, we help you to
rediscover your own resources, making them available to you while you cope with
your current situation. We help you to move from feeling helpless to feeling
competent again. + More
